Mr Martin Griffiths

Martin is a consultant vascular and trauma surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust where he is the Clinical Lead for Trauma Surgery,

 

He set up the first in country integrated ward-based violence reduction service at Barts Health supporting the victims of knife and gun injury, which has had spectacular success in reducing retaliation and violent reoffending.

He is a passionate advocate of diversity and equality, and has worked in the community to promote this matter for over 20 years.

In recognition of his efforts to reduce interpersonal violence Martin was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant by Sir Kenneth Olisa, Lord Lieutenant of Greater London. 

More recently Martin was appointed as the Clinical Director for Violence Reduction in NHS London, the first post of its kind in the NHS. He is a member of the reference groups that guides the VRU in London, promoting the “public health approach” to violence reduction.

He was awarded the Hero Doctor Award at the 2018 NHS Heroes Awards. He was named by the Evening Standard as one of the 1000 Most Influential Londoners, 100 most influential black Britons and gave the keynote address at the NHS 70 celebration at Westminster Abbey.
